Energy Management

By Dr. Carolyn Anderson

If a genie gave a person the chance to pick more of one thing, most wise people would choose more time. With more time one could do more, see more and be more.

Many people look forward to retirement believing they will then finally have all the time in the world to pursue their hobbies, exercise and spend time with friends. But why wait to start living the life of your dreams?

Unfortunately, before and during retirement we still have all the time there is. 24 golden hours in a day. It doesn’t matter whether you are Oprah Winfrey, Nelson Mandela, Tony Bennett or Warren Buffet. Time is the great equalizer. We have to stop trying to manage our time and instead manage our energy.

The average 55 year old will live for another 300 months and approximately 9,100 days. Wouldn’t you love to spend those 9,100 days in a peak state of energy, happiness and vitality? How we manage our energy levels will dictate how big we play the game of life and the impact that we have. By managing my energy I have seen vast improvements in my physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health.

Through my experiences as a surgeon, entrepreneur, speaker and mother I have created a system that has allowed me to pursue my dreams while still working. I hope that by using these strategies it will help you to improve your energy and reach your full potential. My strategy for energy management is summarized by the acronym ENERGY.

Principles of Energy Management

E Eating Well and Exercising
N Living in the Now
E Embracing our values
R Relationships
G Gratitude
Y Your Legacy

Over the next 6 weeks, I will discuss all the components in detail.
