50+ Scholarship Finalist: Steve Ford
During my 30’s and 40’s I spent a great amount of time as a couch potato. At age 49, I decided it was time to get off of the couch, become active and lose some weight. Since, that day, I have lost a considerable amount of weight and re-distributed things. Now I am in the best shape of my life and regularly compete in Triathlons and Road races and occasionally Trail races.
I have found a new passion leading Couch to 5k and Intro to Multisport (Triathlon 101) and a new class this winter called “Off-Season Sports Conditioning – Fighting the Winter Fluff” classes thru the Continuing Education Department at Northeastern State University. It is very rewarding to help other adults regain their fitness and improve their health.
One lady who took my C25k class two years ago has improved her cardiac health dramatically. Her Dr. has downgraded her condition from moderate to mild and reduced her heart medication to minimum dosage, and told her “I don’t know what you have been doing, but keep it up”.
